Tattoo’s have become a very big part of our modern culture. No matter where you go or what part of the world you travel to, you are sure to find a tattoo parlor. The expansion of the tattoo trend means that more and more people look for unique designs and you will find tattoo artists or artists in general designing all types of tattoo images that are a representation of our culture. Some of these designs are based on historical evens or specific genre’s but some are more popular than others.

Of the all the tattoo designs available, the one genre that remains extremely popular are Celtic designs. The Celtic history dates back over many centuries. Celtics are the kind of people who were renowned for their art, jewellery and metal work. They were a fierce group of people who were mostly warriors and who cowed even the Roman oppressors. The artwork that the Celts displayed is visible throughout Europe and there is great evidence of the famed Celtic cross throughout the Republic of Ireland. As time passed, the Celts became more nomadic and evidence of their travels could be found throughout the globe, however, they always kept a sense of their roots by displaying symbols that represented their origin. This is where the Celtic cross tattoo is believed to have taken root, though there is little about this that has been documented in history.

Nearly all of the Celtic designs originate from Ireland. This is of course the natural assumption as the Celtic history has a rich vein planted there. Many tattoo artists have replicated the designs that can be found within historic Celtic sites. Although the Celtic cross remains the most popular of all tattoo’s, there are also variations of the Celtic knot that exist. Many Irish celebrities have a tattoo that symbolizes the Celtic era, still giving the impression that whenever far from home, that they still carry a piece of their ancestry with them.

There is also a large Celtic populace in Scotland, and there is a great amount of evidence, as you travel further into the highlands, that there were many Celtic settlers in these areas. The tattoo artists in Edinburgh take special pride in the Celtic cross, and this is understandable as it is the biggest selling tattoo design in that particular country.

Celtic designs will always be popular, they have an ancient and historic look about them, and the design is intricate but very aesthetically pleasing. For most, it is art and design, for others it is a patriotic calling letting all know that this is who they are.
